What are your recommendations for a mattress?

Yes, having the wrong mattress can lead to back pain. Issues which can indicate this to be a problem include being too soft, being too hard, sagging in the middle, etc. Our experience shows most mattresses have a life expectancy of 6 to 10 years. If your mattress is older than that, or has any of the issues noted above, a new mattress could make a big difference in how you feel.

When Should I Use Ice and/or Heat?

Almost always, start with ice. Ice reduces both pain and inflammation. Many professionals recommend the RICE protocol, which includes rest, ice, compress, and elevate the area involved. Although you can use zip lock bags with ice cubes, we find much better compliance when using gel filled ice packs. we recomment in the initial stage of care that this is performed at least 3 to 4 time daily, and time can range from 10 minutes to 20 minutes depending on the area.
